After noticing a deep wound on this Chipmunks head , I visited Buddy about 100 yards from the house Same spot for 3 months 1 hour a day sometimes longer. And he now responds by name, Jump when called, I can pet him , {ick him up and he loves to go in my Sweater and jacket pockets. And we've become friends he then brought a mate around, he's currently hibernating for 3-4 months. Chipmunks are not true hibernators but they do enter states of torpor. Chipmunks retreat to their burrows and enter a hibernation type state but wake up every few days to eat and defecate. So, instead of hibernating, you can term chipmunks as ‘light sleepers’.
