Mid-flight breakup of an 11’ tall L3 class high-power model rocket at Max-Q. Vehicle exceeded rated airspeed and entered transonic regime (possibly exceeding Mach 1 just prior to breakup). Transonic flow is characterized by high dynamic loads on the aircraft as incomplete shockwaves form and dissipate rapidly across different areas of the vehicle. 1/8th of a second after event, only the metal rocket motor case remains (seen in the bottom of the still) and can be heard impacting the ground from apogee.
