This engineer is using a traffic cone of all things as a funnel to fill this old locomotive with 100lbs of sand. Locomotives apply small amounts of sand to the rails for extra traction when pulling heavy loads or going up steep grades. Also, this train belongs to Iowa Traction, the last electric freight railroad in North America! Every locomotive they use is over 100yrs old!
