    Colony of ants on the small hole on the road

    I found this huge pile of ants, I've been studying carpenter ants for quite a while and I've never seen anything like this before, these are carpenter ants and I can't tell if they are in a war or if their colony is being attacked, if its not that then it's most likely that it's just a huge colony gathering food.     We were moving filled yard waste bags from our shed to the curb for pick up when we discovered a community of carpenter ants and their queen had made their nest in between two that were stacked together. Once exposed, the ants hurriedly worked together to move all the eggs. It was awesome to witness! Although we felt bad for the unintentional eviction. If you listen closely, the “static” or “white noise” in the video is actually all the ants scurrying.

    My husband and I stumbled upon what we believe are carpenter ants on a hike. It was really cool to see them all working together to clear out galleries one piece at a time.
