Man drops metal rod inside sand hole

I wanted to fill this hole, so nothing could fall in it. I Had some used Quarzsand from dandblasting laying around, so i Put it in the hole. When i tried to compress it with the Metal rod, it Just went through the Sand Like If IT was water
