This is something my grandfather showed me when I was a kid. If you fold your middle finger under your hand as shown it suddenly becomes impossible to lift your ring finger, no matter how hard you try. The same is true for your middle finger if you fold up your index finger. I'd be interested to hear an expert explain why.
