Submitter shows transgenic fish embryos under microscope with laser light

I work in a stem cell research lab. This video shows transgenic fish embryos that have a fluorescent protein marker in their heart, and some without it. The heart glows green when visualized with a laser, the change in the middle of the clip is a switch from a laser to a regular light, which allows you to see the blood flow and more details of the embryo

Human skin cells microscopic image with patterns

A kaleidoscope for grown-ups" – but not just any kind. This extraordinary device combines a kaleidoscope with an integrated microscope. Instead of colorful glass pieces, you see real microscopic images – for example, of human skin cells. These images are fed into the kaleidoscope and appear in mesmerizing, symmetrical patterns. A fascinating interplay of science and aesthetics.

  6. Ancient wood bubbles seen with a microscope00:43

Ancient wood bubbles seen with a microscope

This clip shows how well the structure of ancient softwood cells, called tracheid's, are preserved over millions of years. You'd never know these views existed without the use of a microscope! I've been dying to share these views with as many as possible because I believe it is unbelievably cool that such beautiful preservation can be viewed in wood cells that are many millions of years old! The preservation type here is a type of microcrystalline quartz called chalcedony that replaced the original organic cell material. This clip is a small example of the beautiful variation I've seen in even a single sample of petrified wood. I hope to share as many views as I can with the world of this hidden world of natures artistry!

Crystal rock pattern under a microscope

This is a recording of a thin slice of rock under a special type of microscope that has a polarizing filter above and beneath the specimen. Without the specimen, it is totally black because of the orientation of the polarizing filters, but because the different crystals in the rock shift the light around some light makes it through the second polarizing filter. This view is only of light distorted by the crystals.
