Microorganisms shown from sneeze by a scientist

I'm a microbiologist who wanted to show the importance of covering your mouth properly - using a tissue to cover your mouth and nose, or into your elbow, turned away from others. In this clip I sneezed onto an agar plate, which is a jello-like substance used in microbiology labs to grow bacteria. And within 24 hours you can see the thousands of bacterial colonies growing on the plate. This is what people spread when they sneeze!

Person with gloves struggle to throw parafilm

The most frustrating thing about working with gloves in the winter when the humidity is so low that static electricity builds up on everything. This is the backing of parafilm that I was using to seal petri dishes. The backing would not come off my glove and I eventually had to use both hands to ball it up to get it to be thrown away in the mini biohazard bin. I'm a microbiology PhD student.
