Alex Albrecht filmed a basking shark in the North Atlantic. Alex is a 20 year old college student and musician from Seattle, Washington. He was sailing on the SSV Corwith Cramer, a brigantine tallship on a semester program with Sea Education Association studying Marine Biodiversity and Conservation. THey were also being trained as atallship crew so they sailed the boat themselves as students. They sailed from St. Petersburgm Florida to Wood Hole, MA conducting marien biodiversity and oceanography research for 6 weeks. THey saw a basking shark around a hundred nautical miles offshore of New England on May 15th and estimated it to be around 25 feet long. He filmed it from high up on the foremast where you can climb up to tend to rigging and enjoy the view. Everyone on the boat was so excited to see the shark and Alex was in disbelief.
