Ancient wood bubbles seen with a microscope
This clip shows how well the structure of ancient softwood cells, called tracheid's, are preserved over millions of years. You'd never know these views existed without the use of a microscope! I've been dying to share these views with as many as possible because I believe it is unbelievably cool that such beautiful preservation can be viewed in wood cells that are many millions of years old! The preservation type here is a type of microcrystalline quartz called chalcedony that replaced the original organic cell material. This clip is a small example of the beautiful variation I've seen in even a single sample of petrified wood. I hope to share as many views as I can with the world of this hidden world of natures artistry!
