This video was taken on 7/8/2024 at Pope Beach, South Lake Tahoe California. I was enjoying my day at the beach when a bear came up to me and my friend and took our cookies. I threw a chair at it, which did nothing. Then some random guy fought him off with a shovel!! This video was filmed by Derek Joseph Sears, an 18-year-old college student from Placerville, CA. While spending a day at the beach in South Lake Tahoe, CA, with a friend, Derek unexpectedly captured a surprising moment on camera. He had no prior knowledge of the man with the shovel, and like everyone else, was taken aback when the man struck a bear on the head. Living in Northern California, Derek is accustomed to encountering bears—just the night before, he witnessed two bears rummaging through a dumpster. When the bear appeared, he simply stepped aside and decided to film what he thought would be an interesting scene.
